Why Good Nutrition is Important at Any Age

As the New Year begins, many of us will be thinking about our own nutrition and how to eat more healthily. Good nutrition and a healthy diet are important at any age, but especially as we reach the later decades of our lives.

Many people find that their appetite reduces as they get older, but being underweight is a greater risk factor than being overweight in the elderly population. Therefore, promoting good nutrition is very important in care and nursing homes.

There are many ways in which care facilities encourage a healthy interest in food and nutrition, from pictorial menus to vegetable patches which the residents help to maintain. At Elliscombe House we have large buttons positioned on the walls which, if pressed, speak the menu of the day – a great way to tell our residents what our chef has prepared for them!

Our Head Chef Ben and his team work hard to prepare wonderful seasonal dishes for our residents, using local produce. Ben has managed several professional kitchens, predominantly in fine dining restaurants and the gastro-pubs industry, and uses his expertise to create menus full of tasty meals.
