On 1st October we celebrate the 35th United Nations International Day of Older Persons. This annual event raises awareness of the challenges and opportunities of ageing, whilst celebrating the contributions older people make to society.
The UN states that the number of people over 60 has more than doubled in the past thirty years to 1.2 billion; by 2050, another 900 million older persons will be a part of society. This presents challenges and opportunities for us all to create a world where they can live with dignity, independence, and inclusion.
The theme of the 2025 Day of Older Persons is ‘Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, and Our Rights’, which recognises the transformative role that older people play in driving action by drawing on their expertise in areas such as health equity, financial well-being, community resilience, and human rights advocacy.
The person-centred approach to care at Elliscombe House means that we focus our care plans and activities on residents’ wishes and well-being. Our regular residents’ meetings enable us to listen to their feedback and ideas, so that they can live in an environment which they have helped create and which suits their needs.
Elliscombe House is proud to support the International Day of Older Persons and ensure that our residents live with dignity and in a place where their voices are heard and their contributions are celebrated.
